The concept of Micro Needling has in the recent years developed into a very exciting topic.
The idea is that by creating trauma to the Dermis, Growth Factors are released, thus stimulating the formation of new healthy collagen. This process tightens the skin and reduces unsightly lines in even those very difficult to treat areas.
Areas that have been successfully treated are:
- Facial skin.
- Neck skin.
Scar Management with Micro Needling:
The concept of new collagen formation is also applicable in the management of scars.
Scars can be very successfully managed by Micro Needling, leading to the reduction of the dimensions of a scar and making them much less obvious, thus reducing the mechanical limitations and psychological effects that they may have induced.
Does it hurt?
The micro needling process is done only after the area has been numbed with the use of a topical anesthetic cream. Patients then only experience minor discomfort during and a slight burning sensation for a few hours after the procedure.
How many sessions do I need?
Typically the number of sessions are determined by the nature of the problem and the area that needs to be treated. 6-8 Sessions usually give good results. The process of new collagen formation however continuous for up to 12 months after the last treatment.
How long will my down-time be?
The swelling and bruising will typically resolve within 2 days.
